Registered Tax Return Preparer Exam. Prep. Course

As a result of paid preparer oversight program conducted by the IRS, a competency test is scheduled to begin in mid-2011. Once this exam becomes available all tax preparers will have to demonstrate the competency to prepare federal tax returns. Only attorneys, certified public accountants (CPAs), enrolled agents (EAs) or registered tax return preparers (RTRPs), unless they are supervised by such individuals or prepare returns not covered by the competency exam, will be able to prepare tax returns.
This course is designed to offer preparation for the IRS exam.

Upon completion of this course, the tax professional will be able to:

  • Fulfill requirements outlined in Circular 230.
  • Determine if a tax return must be filed and which form to file.
  • Establish filing status and identify dependents.
  • Report various types of income and deductions on Form 1040.
  • Recognize which credits (refundable and nonrefundable) are available to the taxpayer.
  • Determine when a taxpayer is subject to the alternative minimum tax or any other special taxes.
  • Identify nonresident aliens and determine their U.S. filing requirement.
